Medi-Share

Medi-Share is a Christian health care sharing ministry, not a traditional insurance company. It operates as a non-profit organization called Christian Care Ministry.

Its core business model is a form of medical cost-sharing based on biblical principles:

• Sharing Medical Expenses: Members contribute a set Monthly Share Amount, and these funds are used to pay for the eligible medical bills of other members. It’s a community-based system where members voluntarily “share each other’s burdens.”
• Annual Household Portion (AHP): Similar to a deductible in insurance, members choose an AHP they are responsible for paying toward their own medical bills each year before the community begins sharing the eligible costs.
• Faith-Based Membership: To join, members typically must attest to Christian beliefs and agree to live by certain biblical principles outlined in the ministry’s guidelines.
• Not Insurance: Medi-Share explicitly states it is not insurance and is not regulated as such. There is no guarantee that a member’s medical bills will be shared, though they follow guidelines for eligibility. Membership is exempt from the federal individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

In essence, Medi-Share provides an alternative to traditional health insurance by facilitating the sharing of medical expenses among a community of believers.
